| Obverse description | Half-length armored effigy of Elector Christian II of Saxony facing right, clad in elaborately detailed plate armor with a sword visible over his right shoulder and an electoral hat held in his left hand. The figure is set within a beaded inner circle, with the date 1601 (or year of issue) appearing in the field to the left of the bust. The surrounding legend, divided by the inner border, reads CHRISTIAN. II. D. G. SA. RO - IMP. ARCHIMAR. ET. ELEC., identifying him as Elector and Arch-Marshal of the Holy Roman Empire. The portraiture is rendered in the vigorous late Renaissance hammered style characteristic of the Dresden Mint. |

| Reverse description | Facing conjoined busts of the two ducal brothers, John George I and August of Saxony, both shown in armor within a central oval cartouche. Surrounding the central cartouche is an elaborate arrangement of nine heraldic shields representing the various territorial arms of the Saxon lands, disposed in a circular pattern within a beaded border. The peripheral legend reads IOHAN: GEORG. ET. AVGVST: FRAT. ET. DVCES. SAXON+., identifying the two brothers as Dukes of Saxony. The overall composition reflects the dynastic display characteristic of large Saxon multiple-thaler coinage of the early seventeenth century. |
