The design is rendered in the bold, vigorous style characteristic of late medieval Flemish hammered coinage. The circumferential inscription in Gothic uncial lettering reads MARIA DVCISSA BG COMIT FLAD, identifying Mary as Duchess of Burgundy and Countess of Flanders. The coin exhibits the characteristic irregular flan shape and uneven strike typical of hand-hammered production. |

The circumferential inscription in Gothic uncial lettering carries the Psalm verse SALVV FAC PPLM TVV DnE (Save thy people, O Lord) along with the date 1477.
