The circumferential inscription in Gothic uncial lettering reads MARIA DVCISSA BG COMIT FLAD, identifying Mary as Duchess of Burgundy and Countess of Flanders. The coin exhibits the characteristic irregular flan shape and uneven strike typical of hand-hammered production.
