| Beschrijving keerzijde | A standing frontal figure of the Virgin Mary (Madonna), depicted robed and crowned, holding the Christ Child in her arms, set within a plain inner circle. The figure is rendered in a stylized late Gothic manner typical of Livonian billon coinage of the early sixteenth century. A peripheral legend in uncial Latin encircles the design, reading MARI · TV · SAL · P - O ·, an abbreviated invocation to the Virgin. The field surrounding the figure shows characteristic die-struck surface texture of hammered production. The overall composition reflects the strong Marian devotional tradition prevalent in the ecclesiastical coinage of the region. |
