| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field features the denomination numeral '2 R.S' enclosed within an open laurel and oak wreath, the two branches tied at the base and meeting at the top. The circular legend BANCO Y CASA DE MONEDA . BUENOS AYRES . runs along the periphery, separated by small dot stops, with the text reading continuously around the coin. The wreath is rendered in high relief with finely detailed foliage. Depending on the variety, a small rosette ornament may appear at the apex of the wreath. The Banco y Casa de Moneda de Buenos Aires operated during the period when the Province of Buenos Aires had seceded from the Argentine Confederation — a political rupture that lasted from 1852 until Buenos Aires finally rejoined the unified republic in 1861. These copper 2 Reales were issued by a provincial institution, not a national one, a distinction that mattered enormously at the time and makes them products of a breakaway monetary system rather than any central authority.
