| Obverse description | Central field bears the bilingual inscription of the issuing authority in Arabic and Latin scripts, arranged in interlocking horizontal bands: the French legend ETAT / DE SYRIE arching across the upper and lower portions, flanking the Arabic دولة سورية (Dawlat Suriyya, State of Syria) in the centre. The dual dates 1926 (Western numerals) and ١٩٢٦ (Eastern Arabic-Indic numerals) appear respectively at the lower centre and within the Arabic text. The entire design is framed by an elaborate arabesque border of interlaced foliate and geometric ornamental motifs characteristic of the Art Deco-influenced Patey style. |
