附加信息

Flying Scotsman completed its centenary in 2023, having been built at Doncaster Works and entering service with the Great Northern Railway in February 1923 — just months before the Grouping absorbed the GNR into the newly formed LNER. The locomotive became the first in Britain officially recorded at 100 mph, a claim from 1934 that remains contested by some railway historians but has never been formally overturned.

The piedfort format doubles the standard flan thickness, a production choice borrowed from French medallic tradition that the Royal Mint has applied selectively to commemorative issues since the 1980s.
