| 备注 |
Ammoniakwerk Merseburg was the wartime industrial name for what became the Leuna-Werke, the enormous synthetic nitrogen plant built by BASF near Merseburg beginning in 1916 to sustain German munitions production after Allied blockades cut off Chilean saltpeter imports. The facility issued its own small-denomination notgeld as a practical necessity — the sheer scale of the workforce, eventually numbering in the tens of thousands, created a demand for fractional currency that the surrounding regional banking system simply couldn't meet.
The 2 Pfennig denomination is among the smallest face values in German industrial notgeld, reflecting genuine small-change shortages rather than collector-directed issues.
