Corrientes issued its own provincial currency in 2000–2001 under emergency legislation, as the Argentine federal government's convertibility regime had locked the country into a rigid peso-dollar parity that strangled provincial finances. Unable to service payrolls and obligations in federal pesos, several provinces turned to quasi-monedas — parallel scrip backed by future tax revenues rather than by any banking reserve. Corrientes called its version the "Cecacor," and this note is part of that issue.

The federal government eventually forced the withdrawal of most provincial quasi-monedas following the December 2001 collapse and the end of convertibility. Corrientes had actually been placed under federal intervention before the full national crisis hit, which cut the Cecacor's circulation short.
