Reading clockwise from top: 常 (Sang) at top, 通 (Tong) at right, 寶 (Bo) at bottom, and 平 (Pyong) at left, forming the legend 常平通寶 (Sangpyong Tongbo), identifying this as an official currency of the Sangpyeongcheong, the Department of Equalization of the Korean Joseon Dynasty. The characters are rendered in standard script (kaishu) style typical of Joseon-period cash coinage. |

| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central square hole with four Chinese characters disposed in the four cardinal positions around it. The top position bears a mint authority mark identifying the 禁衛營 (Geumwiyeong), the Court Guard Military Unit. The right position carries a crescent symbol. The bottom position bears the series character 暑 (Hwang), drawn from the Thousand Character Classic (千字文), used to denote the emission series. The reverse layout follows the standard Joseon cash coin convention of combining mint identifier, series character, and auxiliary symbols to distinguish individual emission batches. |
