| Description de l’avers | The central panel carries a dense red letterpress underprint formed by the repeated legend 'MAGISTRAT BERLIN STÄDTISCHES STRASSENBAHN', over which the main text is printed in black in decorative Fraktur and Gothic scripts. The denomination '2 MARK' appears in a shield at left, surmounted by the Berlin bear coat of arms, while the right side bears a circular official seal above the value inscription 'GUT FÜR ZWEI MARK' in bold block letters. Berlin's municipal tramway authority issued multiple numbered series of these small-denomination Fahrgeldersatz notes during 1922 as the Reichsbank's printing capacity failed to keep pace with hyperinflation. Each issue in the sequence carried a different vignette tied to the city's transport infrastructure — Issue 9 depicts the elevated rail crossing over the Landwehrkanal, a structure well known to daily commuters on the western lines.
The Magistrat's dual-signature arrangement, with Adler and Harding signing in their official capacities, was a bureaucratic formality designed to give these transit tokens the appearance of legitimate monetary instruments.
