This is a modern bullion-adjacent commemorative issued under Niue's longstanding arrangement with New Zealand, which granted the island territory the right to produce legal tender coinage. The "Angels of St. Petersburg" series drew on iconographic programs from the city's imperial Orthodox churches, a subject with no geographic or historical connection to Niue whatsoever.
