Niue has operated as a prolific bullion and collector coin issuing authority since the 1990s, leveraging a 1972 treaty arrangement with New Zealand that grants it full monetary authority despite a population under 2,000. The "Marvels" branding places this piece within a long-running licensing arrangement between the New Zealand Mint and Marvel Entertainment — one of the more commercially successful numismatic franchise partnerships of the past decade.
