Niue has operated as a prolific bullion and collector coin issuing authority since the 1990s, leveraging a 1972 treaty arrangement with New Zealand that grants it full monetary authority despite a population under 2,000. The "Marvels" branding places this piece within a long-running licensing arrangement between the New Zealand Mint and Marvel Entertainment — one of the more commercially successful numismatic franchise partnerships of the past decade.
Charles III's accession in September 2022 made this among the earliest Niue issues to carry his effigy rather than Elizabeth II's.
