| Описание реверса | A central heraldic shield displaying the arms of Zeeland is surrounded by six smaller shields arranged in a circular composition, each bearing the arms of a principal city of the province: Middelburg at top, followed clockwise by Zierikzee, Goes, Tholen, Vlissingen, and Veere, with the family arms of the first nobleman of Zeeland occupying the innermost position. The shields are flanked by decorative ribbons or strapwork, and the denomination value appears in the field alongside the central composition. The peripheral legend, including the date and mint indication, runs around the outer border. The arrangement follows the established heraldic convention of Dutch provincial coinage of the late seventeenth century. The piece, struck as a piedfort at double the standard weight, displays correspondingly bold and deep relief throughout the reverse design. |

Piedforts — coins struck at double or greater weight on a thickened flan — were produced by Dutch provincial mints almost exclusively as presentation pieces, distributed to visiting dignitaries, civic officials, and members of the States assembly. Zeeland's issues of this type from the late 1680s fall squarely in that tradition. They never entered commerce.
The years 1687–1693 bracket a period of acute financial strain for the Republic, with the Nine Years' War beginning in 1688 drawing heavily on provincial treasuries. That piedforts were still being produced at all reflects their function as political currency rather than monetary.
