| Descrizione del rovescio | A central heraldic shield displaying the arms of Zeeland is surrounded by six smaller shields arranged in a circular composition, each bearing the arms of a principal city of the province: Middelburg at top, followed clockwise by Zierikzee, Goes, Tholen, Vlissingen, and Veere, with the family arms of the first nobleman of Zeeland occupying the innermost position. The shields are flanked by decorative ribbons or strapwork, and the denomination value appears in the field alongside the central composition. The peripheral legend, including the date and mint indication, runs around the outer border. The arrangement follows the established heraldic convention of Dutch provincial coinage of the late seventeenth century. The piece, struck as a piedfort at double the standard weight, displays correspondingly bold and deep relief throughout the reverse design. |
