Additional information

Karim Khan Zand never took the title of Shah, ruling instead as Vakil ol-Ro'aya — regent of the subjects — a deliberate rejection of royal pretension that set his administration apart from nearly every other Persian ruler of the eighteenth century. His Shiraz-based government was notable for relative stability and low taxation, which meant coinage actually circulated rather than being hoarded against political collapse. The Type C designation within this series reflects a die revision sequence documented across his long effective reign.
