| Description de l’avers | The Armenian state coat of arms — depicting a double-headed eagle with a shield bearing the national emblem — is centrally positioned within a circular medallion at the heart of the design. Surrounding the central motif is an elaborate, finely engraved radial geometric pattern of concentric star-burst rays, lending the field a rich, ornate character. An inner border of small beads separates the central device from a decorative ring of stylised floral and leaf motifs. | Description du revers | A detailed architectural elevation of the Matenadaran Institute of Ancient Manuscripts in Yerevan occupies the central field, rendered with fine engraving showing the monumental columned façade, grand stairway, flanking wings, and surrounding trees with pedestrian figures lending scale. At the upper border, the bilingual legend 'ՄԱՏԵՆԱԴԱՐԱՆ MATENADARAN' arcs from left to right in Armenian and Latin scripts. In the upper left field, the numeral '50' is prominently displayed alongside the bilingual inscription '50-ամյակ / 50th Anniversary', commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of the institution's opening. The denomination '1957 ԴՐԱՄ' is inscribed in two lines at the lower portion of the field, referencing both the face value and the founding year of the Matenadaran. |
