| Obverse description | The obverse displays four horizontal lines of elegant Nasta'liq Persian calligraphy arranged across the hammered gold field, enclosed within a decorative cartouche bordered by a fine beaded inner circle and a scrolling floral outer border. The central legend is a royal poetic inscription commemorating Shah Solayman's piety, reading in translation: 'To attain the satisfaction of the guide of mankind and jinn, Solayman of the world struck this blessed coin in gold.' The mint name 'Isfahan' (اصفهان) appears prominently in the lower register, with the AH date 1096 inscribed at the conclusion of the legend. The calligraphy is deeply and boldly struck in high relief, characteristic of Safavid prestige gold issues, with the irregular flan edges typical of the hammered technique. |
