A circular legend surrounds the design, reading CREFELDER STRASSENBAHN along the upper arc and KR.-GELD along the lower arc, the two separated by small decorative stops. The overall layout is bold and legible, consistent with utilitarian wartime Notgeld token design.

Aanvullende informatie

Crefeld's tramway company issued this zinc piece in 1917 as the wartime metal shortage gutted the supply of copper and nickel coinage across Germany. Municipal transit operators were among the most aggressive issuers of Kriegsgeld, since fare collection couldn't wait for the Reichsbank to solve its small-change problem. Zinc was the compromise — cheap, available, deeply unpopular with the public, and prone to corrosion in pocket moisture.

The Funck reference places this among a small series of tram-specific issues, distinct from the broader civic Notgeld flooding German cities simultaneously.
