| Описание аверса | The full achievement of the Ugandan coat of arms occupies the centre of the field, featuring a kob (Uganda's national antelope) as the dexter supporter and a grey crowned crane as the sinister supporter, both flanking a shield charged with a sun and waves over a drum. A scroll at the base bears the national motto FOR GOD AND MY COUNTRY. The legend BANK OF UGANDA arcs along the upper periphery, the date 1999 is divided across the left and right mid-fields, and the denomination 1000 SHILLINGS runs along the lower periphery. A beaded border frames the entire design. |

This novelty issue was produced in Uganda in 1999 as a deliberate anticipation of — or commentary on — the euro's physical introduction, which would not occur until January 2002. The embedded euro cent facsimile is a paper appliqué rather than a genuine struck coin, a detail that disqualifies it from any serious monetary function. It circulated as a collector piece from the moment of issue.
