| Obverse description | The obverse carries a portrait vignette of Volodymyr Vernadskyi (1863–1945), the eminent Ukrainian scientist, philosopher, and founder of the disciplines of geochemistry, biogeochemistry, and radiogeology, as well as the first president of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences (est. 1918). The commemorative inscription «30 РОКІВ НЕЗАЛЕЖНОСТІ УКРАЇНИ» and his attributed quotation «Я вірю у величне майбутнє України» appear alongside the denomination «₴1000» against a guilloche underprint. The issuer's name «НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ» is rendered across the upper field. |
