The Spanisch-Brötli-Bahn — so nicknamed for the Spanish bread rolls vendors sold to passengers — was Switzerland's first steam railway, opening in 1847 between Zürich and Baden. Central African franc issues commemorating obscure European transport history are a fixture of the collector-novelty market: BEAC authorized numerous such coins during the 2000s with no meaningful circulation, produced entirely for the numismatic trade rather than for use in member states.
