The effigy is centered in the field, with the subject's gaze directed slightly to dexter. The legend MIKOŁAJ KOPERNIK arcs across the upper portion of the field. The word PRÓBA, denoting trial or pattern status, appears to the right of the bust in the mid-field. Below the effigy, the birth and death years 1473 – 1543 are inscribed in two lines near the lower periphery, flanked by decorative dots. The engraver's initials SW appear discreetly to the right of the portrait. |
