Beschrijving voorzijde Central field features the Polish state eagle displayed, with wings spread and head turned to dexter, rendered in high relief against a plain field. The eagle bears no crown, consistent with the People's Republic of Poland heraldic tradition. The circular legend POLSKA RZECZPOSPOLITA LUDOWA arcs around the upper periphery, while the denomination 100 ZŁ appears in large numerals at the base of the field, flanked by the abbreviated currency marks. The date 1973 is split across the lower field, to either side of the eagle's body, with the Warsaw Mint monogram MW below.

Beschrijving keerzijde A facing bust of Nicolaus Copernicus, the renowned Polish astronomer, depicted in Renaissance dress with a fur-trimmed collar, modelled in refined low relief after the manner of period portraiture. The effigy is centered in the field, with the subject's gaze directed slightly to dexter. The legend MIKOŁAJ KOPERNIK arcs across the upper portion of the field. The word PRÓBA, denoting trial or pattern status, appears to the right of the bust in the mid-field. Below the effigy, the birth and death years 1473 – 1543 are inscribed in two lines near the lower periphery, flanked by decorative dots. The engraver's initials SW appear discreetly to the right of the portrait.
