By 1941, the Central Bank of China was printing currency in the United States largely because Japanese military advances had made domestic large-scale printing impractical. The Security Banknote Company in Philadelphia took on a significant portion of this wartime production, operating under arrangements that reflected the broader Allied economic relationship with the Republic of China government.
P#243 is a common enough type in circulated grades, but uncirculated examples with clean signatures are notably harder to find — the notes that actually reached China often did so via complex supply routes, and high-denomination paper suffered accordingly in the field.
