Soviet authorities promoted Jabayev as a model "people's poet," and his verses were translated and distributed across the USSR, though scholars have long debated how much of the published work was genuinely his versus shaped by Soviet editors. He died just weeks before the end of World War II, at a claimed age of nearly 99.
