| Beschrijving keerzijde | The dominant design element is the numeral 2012 set against a large black field, in which the zero is replaced by a stylised Mayan pyramid or temple gateway, through whose arch a vaulted interior or starry sky is visible. The entire field is underlaid with a pale orange-toned, fine-line underprint reproducing a Mayan ruler or deity in the manner of Classic Maya stele carving, distinguished by an elaborate feathered headdress. The Maya is a commemorative unit tied to Honduras's pre-Columbian heritage promotion, issued in limited runs rather than through general circulation channels, which makes conventional condition assessment largely beside the point.
The 2012 date places it within the sustained international attention on Maya calendar cycles that year. Whether that timing was deliberate or incidental is not documented in Banco Central de Honduras release materials that have been publicly catalogued.
