| 裏面の説明 | The dominant design element is the numeral 2012 set against a large black field, in which the zero is replaced by a stylised Mayan pyramid or temple gateway, through whose arch a vaulted interior or starry sky is visible. The entire field is underlaid with a pale orange-toned, fine-line underprint reproducing a Mayan ruler or deity in the manner of Classic Maya stele carving, distinguished by an elaborate feathered headdress. The inscription 100 MAYAS appears at left, while the right side carries the legend 21 DICIEMBRE 2012 / FIN DEL CALENDARIO MAYA; the upper left corner contains a plain white disc imitating a watermark area, and Mayan-style geometric ornaments occupy each corner. |

Honduras introduced polymer notes for several denominations in the 2000s but retained paper for the 100 Lempiras — yet this note is denominated in Mayas, not Lempiras. The Maya is a commemorative unit tied to Honduras's pre-Columbian heritage promotion, issued in limited runs rather than through general circulation channels, which makes conventional condition assessment largely beside the point.
The 2012 date places it within the sustained international attention on Maya calendar cycles that year. Whether that timing was deliberate or incidental is not documented in Banco Central de Honduras release materials that have been publicly catalogued.
