Pick 40 bridges a transitional moment in Icelandic banking: Landsbanki Íslands operated simultaneously as both a commercial bank and the central bank until the Seðlabanki Íslands was formally separated out in 1961, which is why notes from this short series carry the hyphenated dual authority name. Bradbury Wilkinson held a long working relationship with Nordic and North Atlantic issuers, and their New Malden facility produced all denominations of this series.
Halldór Pétursson's design commission is one of the few instances where a named Icelandic designer received formal credit on a domestically circulating series of this period.
