The Banque de France printed this series for Banque de l'Indo-Chine under a longstanding arrangement by which the parent institution supplied both the technical infrastructure and the security paper for colonial currency production. Marguerite Dreyfus — known professionally as "Rita" — was among a small cohort of female engravers working at the Banque de France atelier during the interwar period, an unusual situation for the trade at the time.

The ten-year span of issue across 1928–1938 reflects steady demand rather than a single printing run; successive dated issues were released as the preceding stock was depleted.
