Obverse description Blue intaglio print over a multicolour guilloche underprint with black serial numbers. A front-facing portrait vignette of Prince Rwagasore occupies the centre, with the Prince Rwagasore Mausoleum in Bujumbura rendered in the background. A black overprint obscures the original bank title at top and bottom, replacing it with the new Republican institution name in both French and Kirundi.

Reverse description Green intaglio print over a red underprint. The coat of arms of Burundi is centred as the principal vignette, flanked by bilingual text in French and Kirundi. The reverse retains the original typography of the Kingdom-era note, which the obverse overprint was intended to supersede.
Reverse lettering BANQUE DU ROYAUME DU BURUNDI IBANKI Y`INGOMA Y` UBURUNDI LE CONTREFACTEUR SERA PUNIT DE SERVITUDE PENALE UWUZOKWIGANA IYI NOTI AZOFUNGWA GANZA SABWA 100
