Reverse description Bertha Benz is depicted in left profile, seated at the tiller of the Benz Patent-Motorwagen, rendered in fine relief detail showing the three-wheeled horseless carriage in motion. A panoramic urban skyline forms the background, evoking the historic towns along her pioneering 1888 long-distance journey. The legend commemorates the 125th anniversary of automotive history and frames the design in the upper field.

Additional information

Bertha Benz completed her unsanctioned 106-kilometer drive from Mannheim to Pforzheim in August 1888 — the first long-distance automobile journey in history — without her husband's knowledge, using a hairpin to unblock a fuel line and her garter to insulate a wire en route. The trip was deliberately public, intended to generate newspaper coverage and prove the commercial viability of Karl's Patent-Motorwagen Nr. 3. It worked.

Cameroon's role here is purely fiduciary — the country issues silver-plated commemoratives for the international collector market under licensing arrangements, with no domestic circulation intended.
