Obverse description Oval intaglio vignette at left centre bearing a portrait of Wakeno Kiyomaro in traditional court attire, with an elaborate guilloche scroll underprint at centre surrounding the large kanji denomination 拾圓. A vignette of the Goo Shrine appears at lower right, flanked by ornamental borders. The Bank of Japan title inscription 日本銀行 appears in vertical kanji at upper centre, with serial numbers printed in two positions and check letters within brackets.

Reverse description Central panel carries the large kanji denomination 拾圓 flanked by the numeral 10 in ornate cartouches at left and right, set against a fine floral and scroll guilloche underprint in pale olive-green tones. The Bank of Japan title 日本銀行兌換券 appears in vertical kanji at top centre above a circular crest vignette. A horizontal English-language promise clause in letterpress reads: 'Nippon Ginko Promises to Pay the Bearer on Demand Ten Yen in Gold.'
