Bangladesh hosted the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup jointly with India and Sri Lanka — the first time the tournament visited the subcontinent since 1996. For Bangladesh, co-hosting was a significant institutional moment; the national team had only gained Test status in 2000 and had spent much of the intervening decade establishing credibility against established cricketing nations.
