| Reverse description | Central field features a large, finely detailed heart-shaped leaf in high relief, rendered with prominent central and lateral veining. The country name 'বাংলাদেশ' (Bangladesh) is inscribed in Bengali script along the upper arc, with the date '১৯৭৩' (1973) following immediately to its right. The denomination '১০' (10) appears in large Bengali numerals at the base of the central device, flanked by the words 'দশ' (Ten) to the left and 'পয়সা' (Poisha) to the right, all in Bengali script. Small decorative pellet motifs are placed symmetrically in the side fields. A rope-and-bead ornamental border follows the scalloped periphery of the coin. |

Bangladesh began issuing its own coinage in 1973, less than two years after the Liberation War ended and the new state emerged from the former East Pakistan. The aluminium-magnesium alloy chosen for these early fractional pieces was a practical decision driven by severe material shortages and a devastated postwar economy — not an aesthetic one.
