正面描述 Tan-toned notgeld note printed in black Gothic (Fraktur) script on a wavy guilloche underprint, with a decorative square dot border framing the entire face. The denomination numeral '10' appears in bold at upper left and upper right, with the text 'Pfennig' centered between them. The central inscription states the redemption terms at the municipal treasury, with a validity clause reading 'Ungültig 3 Monate nach Bekanntmachung.' The issuing authority, 'Magistrat der Stadt Barby,' is inscribed in large Fraktur lettering at the foot, accompanied by two facsimile signatures reading 'Ohlen' and 'Kropp.'

备注

Barby is a small town on the Elbe in Saxony-Anhalt, and this note is a product of the Kleingeldscheine crisis that swept German municipalities in 1920 — a second wave of emergency coinage shortages following the wartime Notgeld boom. By this point, hundreds of German towns were issuing their own fractional paper simply to keep retail trade moving, as the central government could not produce low-denomination coin fast enough to meet demand.

The dual signatures of Ohlen and Kropp represent the Magistrat's co-authorization requirement — a procedural check meant to limit unauthorized overissue, though enforcement was inconsistent across municipalities of this size.
