Massow — today Maszewo in northwestern Poland — was a small Pomeranian market town, and its 1920 emergency currency belongs to the vast Notgeld wave that flooded Germany as chronic small-coin shortages persisted well into the postwar years. Municipal authorities across the country filled the gap themselves, with results ranging from the artistically ambitious to the purely functional.
