A central vignette presents the Massow municipal coat of arms flanked by two rustic figures in a pastoral landscape with trees. Massow — today Maszewo in northwestern Poland — was a small Pomeranian market town, and its 1920 emergency currency belongs to the vast Notgeld wave that flooded Germany as chronic small-coin shortages persisted well into the postwar years. Municipal authorities across the country filled the gap themselves, with results ranging from the artistically ambitious to the purely functional. Massow's issues fall squarely in the latter category.
