El Banco del Estado de Chihuahua was a state bank operating under the Porfirian banking framework, but by 1913 that framework had collapsed entirely. The Revolution had rendered most provincial bank notes unreliable at best — Chihuahua was Pancho Villa's home territory, and the competing currencies circulating through the state that year included both official issues and Villa's own printed obligations. Whether this note saw meaningful commercial circulation or was simply displaced by revolutionary scrip almost immediately after issue is an open question.
American Bank Note Company produced the series in New York under contract, as they did for numerous Mexican state banks of the period. The S133 Pick reference places it within the broader Chihuahua state bank series, which was effectively defunct within a year of this printing.
