10 Heller Traisen

Traisen is a small industrial town on the Traisen river in Lower Austria, and like hundreds of Austrian municipalities in 1920, it issued its own small-denomination notgeld to address the catastrophic shortage of coins that followed the collapse of the Habsburg monetary system. These local emergency issues were a direct consequence of hoarding and metal scarcity — the central authorities simply could not supply enough circulating coin to keep commerce moving at the village level.

The JPR1076IIb designation places this within the second variant of Traisen's 10 Heller issue, a distinction that typically reflects a plate or printing difference rather than a date change. Designer H. Böhm is otherwise unattested in major notgeld literature — likely a local draughtsman rather than a professional print artist.
