| 表面の説明 | A red letterpress border ornamented with foliate scrollwork encloses the face of the note, with circular value medallions at each corner bearing the denomination. At the top centre, a bust of Marianne is rendered within a circular cartouche, below which a bold red rectangular panel carries the denomination in white letterpress text. The overall typographic composition is consistent with French municipal emergency currency (monnaie de nécessité) issued during the First World War. |

Roubaix and Tourcoing were under German occupation from October 1914 until the armistice, and the municipal emergency notes issued there were a direct product of that occupation — the occupying authorities had drained the region of metallic currency, forcing local administrations to print their own fractional and low-denomination paper to keep commerce minimally functional. The joint issuance by two neighboring communes rather than a single municipality reflects both the industrial interdependence of these textile cities and the administrative improvisation of wartime.
Printed locally by Debode rather than sent to a secure facility, the notes relied on a dry stamp as their primary authentication — a fragile deterrent against forgery in a city cut off from normal financial infrastructure.
