Obverse description A red letterpress border ornamented with foliate scrollwork encloses the face of the note, with circular value medallions at each corner bearing the denomination. At the top centre, a bust of Marianne is rendered within a circular cartouche, below which a bold red rectangular panel carries the denomination in white letterpress text. The overall typographic composition is consistent with French municipal emergency currency (monnaie de nécessité) issued during the First World War.
