Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse displays a highly detailed, high-relief effigy of a Chinese dragon in the classical Eastern tradition, its sinuous scaled body coiling dynamically to fill the coin's field. The dragon faces the viewer frontally with an open jaw and prominent antler-like horns, its body rendered with exceptional sculptural depth. The Chinese character '龍' (dragon) appears incuse within the coils of the body at lower center. An ornate background of clouds and traditional decorative motifs in low relief surrounds the central figure. The curved legend 'ANNÉE DU DRAGON' arcs along the upper left rim, with the year '2024' inscribed to the upper right.

Aanvullende informatie

The Monnaie de Paris has issued Chinese lunar calendar pieces for foreign and diaspora markets since the early 2000s, positioning itself alongside the Perth Mint and Royal Mint in competing for that collector segment. These are primarily sold through Asian distribution networks rather than through domestic French retail channels.

The Dragon year recurs on a 12-year cycle; the 2024 Gregorian year technically inaugurated this particular cycle on January 22nd, making the 2023 mint date a pre-issue convention common to European mints striking lunar series for the following calendar year's market.
