| 表面の説明 | Within a beaded inner circle, four large Chinese characters arranged vertically and horizontally reading 光緒元寶 (Guangxu Yuanbao) dominate the central field, with a six-petalled rosette at the centre. The upper arc of the beaded circle bears the mint inscription 安徽省造 (Made in Anhwei Province), while the lower arc carries the denomination 當十 (10 Cash). Flanking the central characters to the left and right, outside the beaded circle, are Manchu script characters reading ᠪᠣᠣ ᠠᠨ (Boo-an), identifying the An-hwei Mint. The overall design is typical of the late Qing provincial machine-struck cash coinage. |

Anhwei's copper cash production in this period was notoriously inconsistent — the provincial mint at Anqing operated under chronic funding shortfalls and administrative interference from Beijing, which pushed standardization of the imperial cash series but struggled to enforce it at the provincial level. The omission of the English denomination on this type, compared to the more common bilingual issues, likely reflects an early transitional run before the Board of Revenue's formatting expectations fully filtered down to the Anhwei facility.
Y#38b is the scarcer of the two principal varieties. Survivors in problem-free condition are underrepresented at auction relative to the standard type.
