Surrounding the inner circle, the Latin legend reads TOM MOCENIGO DVX, identifying the Doge Tomaso Mocenigo as issuing authority, introduced and closed by cross stops. The overall flan is irregular in shape, consistent with hand-struck medieval Venetian practice. |

The surrounding Latin legend reads VEXILIFER VENETIARUM, proclaiming the standard-bearer of the Venetians, introduced by a cross stop. The irregular flan and flat strike are consistent with the known characteristics of Venetian torneselli struck for circulation in the Levant and Crete. |
