Khmer script legends arranged around the periphery of the field, with additional inscriptions occupying the upper portion of the design. The whole is enclosed within a finely toothed inner border and a reeded outer rim. |

This piece belongs to a small group of pattern issues prepared for Norodom I before his formal coronation — he was installed as king in 1860 under Franco-Siamese supervision, but pre-coronation coinage trials were conducted well before that date. Cambodia had no established modern mint tradition, and these patterns were almost certainly struck in France or by French-connected die cutters as part of early colonial monetary planning. White metal strikes of this type were standard proof-of-concept pieces, not intended for circulation. KM#PnA2 is among the earliest documented attempts to produce Western-format coinage for the Cambodian kingdom.
