| Obverse description | Half-length armored effigy of Duke Frederick VIII facing right, depicted in elaborate period military dress with richly detailed gorget, pauldrons, and cuirass rendered in fine relief. The date 1625 appears divided on either side of the figure within the inner beaded border. To the right of the bust, a crowned Saxon coat of arms is visible. The circumferential Latin legend, interrupted by decorative stops, runs along the outer border naming the four co-ruling dukes of Saxe-Altenburg by their initials and titles. |

A circumferential Latin legend in capital letters runs along the outer border, continuing the commemorative funerary text.
