Frederick I was crowned King in Prussia on January 18, 1701 — a title carefully worded to sidestep Polish suzerainty over Ducal Prussia — and the Ausbeute thalers struck that year commemorated silver production from the Rothenburg mines in Silesia. Ausbeute coinage, struck directly from freshly extracted ore to celebrate a mine's yield, occupied a ceremonial tier above ordinary currency; recipients were mining officials, investors, and court favorites rather than market traders.
The Dav GT II#2554A attribution places this among the rarer die marriages of the type.
