The Latin motto MELIVS EST DARE QVAM ACCIPERE, meaning 'It is better to give than to receive' (Acts 20:35), is rendered in large, well-spaced capital letters. The date 1684 appears at the foot of the inscription within the cartouche. The entire composition is enclosed by a milled or reeded outer border. |
